The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum Moving Image
Collection contains over 23,000 moving images on over 9 different
formats, including 16mm film, digibeta, DVD, and early video. The dates
of these materials range from the 1920's to the present
and provide a vast and unique visual history of Country Music.

Bob Pinson Recorded Sound Collection
Permanent Collection
Virtually spanning the history of recorded sound, the Bob Pinson
Recorded Sound Collection embraces 200,000 recorded cylinders and
discs including 98% of all pre-World War II country recordings ever made.

The Frist Library and Archive represents more than 30 years’ worth of collecting country music books, periodicals, photographs, fan club newsletters, scrapbooks, sheet music, songbooks, video and film, oral histories and sound recordings.

Oral History Collection
Permanent Collection
To advance its mission of preserving and
disseminating the history of country music, the non-profit Country Music
Foundation, Inc. (CMF), chartered by the state of Tennessee in 1964, began
collecting oral history interviews and other research materials soon after the
1967 opening of CMF’s Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum. CMF’s ongoing
Oral History Project was officially launched in 1974. Now embracing 666 interviews,
the Oral History Collection forms a key component of CMF’s Frist Library and
Archive, housed in the newer Museum building opened in downtown Nashville in 2001. The
collection contains interviews with performers, recording artists, songwriters,
and a wide variety of business personnel involved in the country music
industry. 638 interviews have been transcribed.

The Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum has an extensive, permanent artifact collection. This collection includes more than 800 stage costumes, over 600 instruments and hundreds of other objects - from microphones to automobiles - documenting the history of country music.

Instrument Collection
Permanent Collection
The Museum’s Instrument Collection includes over 600 instruments, including guitars, banjos, pianos, drums, fiddles, steel guitars, mandolins and folk instruments like cigar-box fiddles. Guitars, many of them rare models and prototypes, comprise approximately half of the collection.

Hatch Show Print Collection
Permanent Collection
Hatch Show Print is one of the oldest working letterpress print shops
in America and is operated as a historical site and an active business.
A working museum that continues the craft of letterpress printing,
Hatch strives to preserve the history of the shop with an archive that
includes type and woodblocks, posters and documents.
