Film Loop: Marty Robbins at Town Hall Party (2002)

August 5, 2007 from 9 am - 1 pm

In celebration of our latest featured exhibit, Marty Robbins: Among My Souvenirs, the museum will show "Marty Robbins at Town Hall Party." Town Hall Party was a live radio and television program produced in California from 1952 through 1961.

Very popular in its day, the program drew large audiences and, for several years, it was broadcast internationally by the Armed Forces Network. This compilation, released by Bear Family Records in 2003, features Robbins on February 21, 1959, and October 3, 1959.  By the time of these appearances, Robbins had already topped the charts with "Singing the Blues" and "A White Sport Coat (and a Pink Carnation)." Also appearing are  Tompall & The Glaser Brothers and Joe Hudgings.

The footage will loop from 9 am - 1 pm. Ford Theater. Free.

Interview: Lucy Coldsnow Smith

August 5, 2007 at 2:00 pm

Once an assistant for Marty Robbins, Lucy Coldsnow Smith is an in-demand motion picture dialogue and sound editor (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007), Million Dollar Baby (2004), Mystic River (2003), Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997), and others).

In her ten-year tenure with Robbins, Smith handled everything from the hiring of studio musicians to ordering fireproof uniforms for NASCAR races.  The start of her career in Hollywood coincided with Robbins's emergence as an actor and, before she left Robbins for the movie business, they worked on film projects together, including Country Music (1967), and Guns of a Stranger (1972).

In this interview, Smith will reflect on her years with Marty and share some stories of his imprint on her life and career.

Included with museum admission.  Free to museum members.
